The Dublin Gospel Choir will perform in the Civic Theatre, Dublin on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of December. This promises to be a great night of Gospel music with awe-inspiring performances from this unique group of singers. Dublin’s Civic Theatre is situated just off Blessington Road, right behind The Square shopping Centre in Tallaght. It’s really easy to get to by public transport from the city centre. There are a number of buses you could take, but probably the handiest way to get to the venue is to take the Red Luas Line, which runs all the way to The Square in Tallaght.
If you’re driving, regardless of whether you’re travelling from Dublin City or from outside the capital, all you have to do is head for the M50. From there you can make your way to the Tallaght Road, the N81, which is located south of the N7 Naas Road. Taking this exit and heading west for about 2.5 kilometres and take the turn off for the Belgard Road. At the first roundabout, turn left on the first exit. Then turn right, third exit, on the following roundabout onto Belgard Square East. After a few hundred metres you’ll come to a 3rd roundabout where you can take a left onto Blessington Road. The Civic Theatre is located about half way down the road on the right hand side.
The singers and musicians of Dublin Gospel Choir have been together for 11 years now and they have gained huge popularity both in Dublin and throughout the country. They have performed on the main stage at the Electric Picnic and have also sung with such famous figures as James Brown, Rod Steward, The Chieftains, Chris de Burgh, Riverdance, The Hothouse Flowers and Paddy Casey.
Gospel Music has only been around since the first quarter of the last century and it’s a very inspirational form of music. This music style is heavily based on harmonic vocals with a strong lead vocalist and is accompanied by such instruments as the Hammond Organ, drums, bass guitar and sometimes an electric guitar. There’s some debate about the origin of the music, but some experts have traced its origins back to the Scots Gaelic immigrants to America teaching it to the slaves from Africa, who then combined it with their own music style to form something completely new.
The Dublin Gospel Choir is coming to the Civic Theatre on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of December. The shows start at 8pm on both nights.
