The Broadway smash ‘Blood Brothers’ is coming to the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin from Tuesday 5th February to Saturday 15th March, 2007. This award-winning musical is an event not to be missed and is in fact one of the longest running shows in London’s West End. The Gaiety Theatre is located in Dublin City Centre at the top of Grafton Street on South Kings Street opposite Saint Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre. If you’re travelling on foot from the city centre you can simply head south, cross the River Liffey, continue on past Trinity College and head up along Grafton Street. At the top of the street turn right and walk down South Kings Street with Saint Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre on your left, you should see the Gaiety Theatre on your right.
If you are travelling into the city from the southside you can take the Green Luas Line that has a stop at Saint Stephens Green. If you’re driving, the easiest route might be to head for the M50, then take one of the routes into the city and when you come to the Outer Ring Road travel to the south where it meets the N11. At this junction turn towards the city centre and it will take you right by Saint Stephen’s Green, where you might be able to park in the Saint Stephen’s Green Car Park. This is by no means the most direct route but it’s definitely the easiest to follow.
Blood Brothers tells the tale of a pair of fraternal twins who are separated at birth because their mother, Mrs Johnstone, can’t afford to raise them both. She lets her boss, Mrs Lyons who is having trouble having children, take one of the boys. Mrs Lyons forces the superstitious Mrs Johnstone to swear on the Bible never to reveal the truth to the boys. The two boys grow up as friends but their different levels in society mean they live very different lives. It all goes wrong for the brothers when they fall for the same girl.
Wily Russell wrote this musical’s lyrics, book and music in 1980. It gives a very interesting perspective on the nature versus nurture debate that is still being pondered to this day. This musical has enjoyed sell out runs to date and returns to the Gaiety Theatre for a limited run. Blood Brothers won four awards for best musical in London and seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway.
The show runs from Tuesday the 5th of February to Saturday the 15th of March. During this run there will be shows on at 8pm every Monday to Saturday, and there are no shows on Sundays. On Saturdays and Wednesdays there will be shows on at 3pm as well.
This brilliant musical is running for most of February and the first half of March so you should have ample opportunities to find a time that suits you.
