If you’re travelling to Dublin city by ferry from Holyhead, you’ll arrive at one of two ports in Dublin, Dublin Port or Dun Laoghaire. Read on to find out how you get to Dublin hotels from these two ports.
Dublin Port
Dublin Port is Ireland’s largest and busiest passenger ferryport and can be found just about 3km east of O’Connell Street (Dublin’s main street in the city centre).
The port is both located at the north side and south side of the River Liffey.
If you’re taking your car to Dublin you’ll want to know what Dublin hotels have parking facilities.
Dublin Port is now connected with the M50 ring road via the Dublin Port Tunnel which was only opened in 2006. However this tunnel was mainly built for trucks and lorries, so if you do use this tunnel you will have to pay a toll fee. This is the route you’ll take if you’re staying at Dublin hotels north of the city centre.
For Dublin hotels in the city centre, just look for North Wall Quay Road as you leave Dublin Port. This road will take you directly to the city centre.
For Dublin hotels in Ballsbridge south of the city centre, just cross the river on the R131 York Road, when you come to a roundabout, take the 3rd exit for Sean Moore Road, continue onto Church Avenue R111 and continue for about 1km until you come to Shelbourne Road on the left hand side. This road will bring you to Ballsbridge.
If you’re a foot passenger arriving at Dublin Port you can get the Dublin Bus from the ferryport to Busaras in the city centre. You could also get the number 53 bus from Alexander Road on North Wall Quay and be in the city centre in about 30 minutes.

Dun Laoghaire
Dun Laoghaire is the perfect destination to begin your adventure in Ireland. It’s a pretty harbour town about 12km south east of Dublin city with easy access to the city centre, the M50 ring road, the Wicklow Mountains and the south east of Ireland.
To get to Dublin hotels in the city centre, just take the N31 from Dun Laoghaire until you reach the Stillorgan Road. Here take a right on the N11, Stillorgan Road northbound for the city centre. This route will bring you straight into the city centre. Also take this route for Dublin hotels located in the Ballsbridge area.
If you want to be close to the Dun Laoghaire ferryport then choose the Kingston Hotel, which is a 2 star Dublin hotel not far from the port.
Dun Laoghaire is connected to Dublin city by the DART suburban rail, which will get you to the city centre in about 25 minutes.
