The Aran Islands Information
The Aran Islands lie off the coast of County Galway in the west of Ireland. Pinned to the very edge of Europe, these islands are places where time has stood still and the pace of life is slow.
Comprising three rocky outcrops named Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Oirr, the islands boast dramatic scenery, a strong sense of community and culture and such remarkable historic attractions as the 2,000-year-old-fort Dun Aengus
The Aran Islands are a Gaeltacht area, which means Irish is the main language spoken by its 1,300-plus inhabitants.
Visitors can reach the Aran Island by ferry from Doolin in County Clare and Rossaveal in County Galway, or by air from Indreabhán in County Galway with Aer Arann.
