Cork Midsummer Festival is nothing like any other summer event you will attend this year. This fresh and exciting annual festival draws more and more people of all ages with each spectacular staging. Ten days of world-class performances, special events, and entertainment begin on June 21st, with Rian, a thrilling evening of music and dance at the Cork Opera House.

The festival showcases inspiring theatre, dance, music, opera, visual arts, and street arts from around the world, in all Cork’s major venues, as well as in unusual locations all over the city. Barry’s Tea factory will appear in a whole new light, as it is one of eight unconventional locations chosen by the artists participating in “Ciudades Paralelas,”a collection of unique projects for urban spaces such as hotel rooms, shopping centres, and factories.

The 2012 event features the festival’s biggest-ever programme of work for children and families, with shows including The Girl Who Forgot to Sing Badly, The Adventurous Life of Icelandic Sheep, and White catering for even the youngest audiences. Emerging artists are given a platform with Solstice, which features the “This is Tough Love Everyone” residency for the development of six brand new works for staging during the festival.
