This year the annual Cork Corona Film Festival will take place at a later date from the 1st - 8th of October. Showcasing the best of Irish and international films and documentaries to the people of Cork and the southwest, this festival has now become one of the biggest highlights on the cultural and social calendar in Ireland.

The Cork Film Festival has grown from strength to strength since it first started back in 1956 and it now attracts everyone from film lovers to film makers from Ireland, Europe and beyond.

The week long event will play host to a variety of short films, documentaries and some major picture films from the cinema world. But the overall aim of this festival is to showcase the excellent talent of Irish homegrown productions and film.

The screenings take place in the Cork Opera House - a fantastic 1,000 seater auditorium, the only purpose built theatre in Ireland! Check it out: The Cork Opera House

Films will also be shown in the Kino Cinema on Washington Street and the Triskel Arts Centre which is located just off Washington Street.

The highlights of the 2009 festival will include; an Irish cinema showcase ‘Seeing Sound’ by audiovisual artist Ian Helliwell, a masterclass by renowned filmmaker Peter Tscherkassky, and a focus on Indian short films. There will also be lots of lectures and workshops on topics such as favourite directors, new developments and new productions in the world of film
