A new survey shows that Irish hotels are the cheapest in Europe, with the average rate for an Irish hotel room as little as €79 per night, and in fact many locations throughout Ireland are either at or below this average.

A survey of prices for hotels in over 40 countries has revealed that Ireland is now one of the most affordable tourist destinations, with great value for money hotel offers throughout the market. Recent research has shown Ireland in 6th place worldwide, and having the cheapest hotel rates in Western Europe!

The national average room rate was just €79 a night in 2010, this is down 4% on a similar survey which was conducted in 2009, when the Irish national average was €82. Hotel room rates around Ireland have been falling since the economic downturn of 2008, and thus represent excellent value for money, having fallen to the room rate levels of 2004.

A stay in Ireland’s capital city on average is even cheaper than the national average, at just €73 for a hotel room. This represents a 6% drop from €78 in 2009. Dublin hotels now offer some of the best value for hotels anywhere in the world and remains the most inexpensive major city for a hotel break in Western Europe, well behind major cities like Paris (€117), Rome (€114) and London (€129).

The research showed that Kilkenny is now the most expensive destination in Ireland at €112 for a room, whereas Waterford is the cheapest at a jaw dropping €56 per room after dropping 8%. Room rates in Cork dropped 2% to €77. Galway (12%), Wexford (12%) and Killarney (16%) have all seen hotel room price drops in the past year.
