This Christmas, Funderland plans the biggest and best show ever. Over the years Funderland has entertained the people of Ireland and continues to reach new heights each year with a new addition and of course keeping the old favourites alive too.
The RDS is an impressive venue and a stage for both national and international events in Ireland. It’s located on a 42-acre site in the prestigious area of Dublin 4 beside the beautiful Herbert Park and is a wonderful platform for the Funderland Carnival each year.
This year Dublin will be spoilt for choice with four roller coaster rides, and Funderland guarantees a thrilling experience for the young and young at heart! To mark the occasion of 30 years in business four years ago a new giant wheel was introduced to Funderland. The giant wheel was appropriately called ”The Jubilee” and will again this year light up the Dublin skies with its amazing lighting and colour. ”The Jubilee” will take you to heights of 150 meters where you will get a birds eye view of the city below and beyond.
Funderland is an exhilarating family experience and is sure to get your adrenaline pumping, so come and experience the fun of the Funderland carnival and treat yourself and the family over the festive season. How to get here…
The RDS is located just south of Dublin city centre in the suburb of Ballsbridge. It’s approximately a 25 minute walk and if you’re feeling up to it here are the directions:
From the city centre start outside of Trinity College at College Green, walk along Nassau Street for about 150 metres, turn right and follow the signs for Mount Street and the R118, continue along for about 2km or so and the road eventually takes you onto Merrion Road, at this point you will see the RDS in front of you located beside Herbert Park.
Public transport is probably a better option when travelling with children and especially taking into account the time of year and the good old unreliable Irish weather! Bus routes operating to Funderland are the number 7, and 7A from O’Connell Street, and bus numbers 7, 5, and 45 all stop at Nassau Street, outside of Trinity College and will get you to the Merrion Road entrance of the RDS.
The nearest DART stops are Lansdowne and Sandymount, both of which are just a few blocks away, while Ranelagh is the most convenient Luas stop on the Green Line Luas.
Alternatively Dublin has a very good taxi service and at such a distance it won’t set you back too much.
No matter what time you decide to go, there are a number of Dublin hotels that are located close to the RDS, if you decide to stay over for the night.
Listed is an excellent selection of Dublin hotels in the vicinity including a number of reasonably priced 3-star hotels such as the Lansdowne Hotel, the Tara Towers Hotel, the Mount Herbert Hotel and the Roxford Lodge Hotel. In the neighbouring suburb of Donnybrook there’s the Montrose Hotel, which is also a 3-star hotel. Two 4-star hotels near the RDS are the Herbert Park Hotel and the School House Hotel. And for some real 5-star luxury there’s the Dylan Hotel.
