The Pyramids of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Ancient Babylon, and the Colossus of Rhodes are just some of the sights that influenced many great writers, painters and sculptors of the ancient world to produce their finest works. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World inspired those with a creative and artistic streak to go beyond anything they had done before. What are the ‘Wonders of Ireland’? What symbolises Ireland and its outstanding natural beauty? GoIreland.com are calling all amateur photographs to capture what you think is a ‘Wonder of Ireland’. Read on for more…

When you enter the GoIreland.com Photography Awards 2008 you have the chance of winning a fantastic holiday in Ireland with flights, car rental and hotel accommodation all arranged and paid for by us. Not only that, but the overall winner plus 11 lucky runners-up will have their snap shot reproduced in an original John Hinde calendar.

Is there some special scenery that has taken your breath away? Perhaps it’s the sunset from the Cliffs of Moher, or the breathtaking views from Carrantuohill, Ireland’s highest mountain? Whatever you feel symbolises Ireland, showing its beauty and grandeur or what you felt inspired you. All entries are welcome, be they of the countryside, cities or people of Ireland.

If you feel that the Irish stereotypes of Leprechauns and pots of gold have existed for far too long, give the world a taste of what it means to you to either be Irish or what the country evokes in you while you are staying here. Capture the places that you feel should be the highlights of any visit to Ireland on camera and send them in to us.

Now in its fourth year the competition is seeking out budding photographers from Ireland and abroad who take inspiration from the natural beauty that Ireland oozes. It’s a fantastic stepping-stone for any amateur photographer and a great chance for exposure on a broad spectrum.

Entries can be sent to us via our website before Friday the 10th of October 2008, when our panel of judges will choose the winner and eleven runners-up who will all be included in a John Hinde calendar.

Best of luck! Happy snapping!
