Are you thinking of tying the knot in Ireland? Did you know that new marriage legislation introduced in Ireland in November 2007, means that for the first time civil marriages can now take place outside of a registry office.
Prior to November 2007, a civil marriage ceremony could only take place at a Registry Office. However, couples can make their big day really special with civil marriages now allowed to take place at a venue of choice, be it a luxury hotel, a magnificent castle or an old world country-style manor.
Under the new legislation the venue has to meet certain criteria - for example, the building has to be a ‘fixed structure’, the setting for the ceremony has to be ‘dignified’, public witnesses have to be facilitated and no food or drink is to be consumed during the service. The Health Service Executive will also carry out an assessment of the venue prior to the big day.
If you’d like a hotel ceremony then check out hotels in Ireland - there’s almost 500 hotels scattered the length and breadth of the country so whether you’re looking for modest 3 star or a deluxe 5 star - you’re sure to find something to suit you.
There are some really enchanting Ireland castle hotels dotted throughout the island, which are perfect for that fairytale wedding.
