THIS MUSEUM IN NOW CLOSED
The Bram Stoker Dracula Experience, on the Clontarf Road in Dublin 3 is great day out. This museum, which opened in 2003, tells the life story of the Irishman who created the well known creature of the night, namely Count Dracula. The first publication of the novel was in 1897 and it’s still in print today. It has been translated into various languages and the novel has also been adapted into over 200 films.
Abraham Stoker was born on the 8th of November 1847and lived most of his young life at 15 Marino Crescent (now known as The Crescent) in Clontarf. He was a very sick child and was bed bound for many years. When he reached the age of seven he made a full recovery and went to school. Stoker said himself it was during those bed-ridden years that he began to use his imagination and ponder up ideas that he would use in his gothic writings, in the years to come. He later went to Trinity College where he graduated with an honor in mathematics.
Stoker befriended the actor Henry Irving after he wrote a great review of his performance as Hamlet in the Theatre Royal in Dublin. In 1878 Stoker moved to London to work as a manager in Irving’s Lyceum Theatre. Stoker was joined in London with his wife Florence Balcombe. It was through Irving that Stoker became a person of high society and he began to travel the continent and the world. Stoker started studying European folklore and collected vampire stories, which gave him the inspiration to write the spine-chilling novel of Dracula.
The Bram Stoker Dracula Experience offers a unique and gruelling glimpse of the life of Bram Stoker and the life of Dracula. In the tour you’ll get to visit “Dracula’s Lair”, “Dracula Castle”, “The Blood Lavatory” and “The Time Tunnel to Transylvania”.
There’s also a children/teen party zone. This will take the hassle out of organising a birthy party or any other get togerther. Various activities can be organised as well.
The Bram Stoker Dracula Experience is located at the Barcode in the Westwood Club on the Clontarf Road.
How to get here…
The Bram Stoker Museum is only about 10 minutes from the city centre.
By DART: The nearest DART station is Clontarf Station, which is only one stop form Connolly Station and two stops from Tara Street.
If you’re using the DART to get to the museum you’ll receive 25% off the admission price when you produce your DART ticket.
By Bus: Most northbound buses that leave from Lower Abbey Street also stop near the museum. Bus route numbers from Abbey Street are as follows: the number 130, 29A, 31, 31A, 32, 32A, 32B, 20, 20B, 27, 27B, 42, 42A, 42B, 43, 127 and number 129.
