Building of City Hall began in 1898 after Belfast was awarded the status of a ‘city’ by Queen Victoria and was completed in 1906. Features of this classic Renaissance style building include a 173 feet high marble dome topped with a stone lantern, four towers, an enclosed courtyard, stained glass windows, impressive marble structures and the exterior is made up mainly of Portland stone.

The extravagant interior is made up of the Porte-Cochère and Grand Entrance, the Grand Staircase, the Reception Room, the Great Hall and the Council Chambers. Guided tours are available Monday to Saturday and last about 45 minutes.

Outside the landscaped gardens cover 1.5 acres, with plenty people coming and going, especially during the summer months, lunches in tow. Features here include a statue of Queen Victoria and a memorial to the ill-fated Titanic.
