About the street performances

For 3 days in June, Merrion Square will be taken over and turned into one of the most thrilling and exhilarating venues in the country.

This festival has had a huge attendance the past few years and this year it will once again, attract thousands of spectators to see over 120 free street events.

Acrobatics, jugglers, mime artists, sword swallowers, stilt walkers, magicians and circus performers from all corners of the globe will all be vying to be crowned Street Performance World Champion 2008.

About the venues

Merrion Square is one of the finest Georgian squares in the city and can be found on the south side of the city, about a ten minute walk from St. Stephens’s Green which is located at the top of Grafton Street, Dublin’s main shopping street.

Merrion Square has a nice public park surrounded on three sides by beautiful Georgian buildings. Nearby attractions include the National Museum of Ireland, Leinster House, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Heraldic Museum and the Natural History Museum.

Stroll around the square and admire the architecture - don’t forget to check out the plaques on the walls of the houses as some display the names of famous Irish people who lived there.

How to get to Merrion Square

By foot:

From O’Connell Street (Dublin main street) head south towards O’Connell Bridge. Cross over and continue onto Westmoreland Street and straight on until you reach the start of Grafton Street (pedestrianised street). Here take a left and continue along Nassau Street, which becomes Clare Street and Merrion Square North, where you’ll see Merrion Square on your right hand side.

By bus:

The 7, 7A , 48A, 49X, 77X, 44, 45 will take you to Merrion Square.

By Luas:

The Luas is Dublin’s much loved tram service. There is a Luas stop about a 10 minute walk away from Merrion Square. It can be found opposite the St. Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre.

By DART:

The DART train will also get you close to Merrion Square. Just get off at Pearse Street Station and you’re just about a 5 minute walk from Merrion Square.
