One of rock n’ rolls greatest song-writers and performers has announced a date for Dublin this Summer. Neil Young will take over Malahide Castle, Dublin on the 29th June 2008 and tickets go on sale next Monday 10th March at 9am.

About the concert

As part of his European Summer Tour 2008, Neil Young will play Malahide Castle Dublin on the 29th June and The Marquee, Cork on June 30th.

Born in Toronto, Canada in 1945, Neil Young is world renowned for his folk acoustic rock and his electric hard rock music and songs.

Since he started performing in 1960, he has toured the world and produced about 35 albums! Along with a hugely successful solo career, he also collaborated with Crosby, Stills and Nash and Crazy Horse who eventually became his back up band.

Some songs that Neil Young is set to play at these Irish concerts are; Oh Lonesome me, Heart of Gold, Down By the River, Hey Hey My My, Dirty Old Man, Cinnamon Girl and Rockin’ In the Free World.

About the venue

Malahide Castle is the perfect setting for this concert. The castle is located in Malahide, a beautiful coastal part of Dublin, about 16km north of Dublin city. Malahide Castle is situated on 250 acres of parkland which provide the perfect location for outdoor concerts. (Eric Clapton and Radiohead have also confirmed dates for Malahide Castle this Summer).

The castle dates as far back at the 12th century when it became home to the Talbot family. It stayed in the Talbot family for almost 800 years and today if you explore the castle and its Great Hall you can learn a lot about the history of this family.

Malahide Castle is also home to Tara’s Palace, one of the finest doll house displays in the world. The Fry Model Railway is also located here, as is The Talbot Botanic Gardens.

How to get there

By bus; Bus number 42 will get you there from the city centre
By train: You can get the DART suburban rail from Connolly Station. It takes about 15 minutes to get to Malahide.
By car: The castle is about a 25 minute drive from the city centre depending on traffic. Visit the Malahide Castle home page for directions.
