Amy Winehouse takes to the stage of the RDS in Dublin on December 1st. So if you haven’t booked your accommodation already, here’s an idea of what Dublin hotels are within walking distance of the gig!
The RDS is located close to the city centre in the suburb of Ballsbridge, Dublin D4. Heading out of the city centre, starting outside of Trinity College, you can travel along Nassau Street for about 150 metres. From here you can turn right and follow the signposts for the R118 (Mount Street). If you stay on this road for about 2kms and continue onto Merrion Road, you should eventually see the RDS in front of you. The RDS occupies an area of about 42 acres and is situated close to Herbert Park.
If you’re in the city your best bet is to catch the number 7, 5, and 45 bus which all stop at Nassau Street outside of Trinity College.
Amy Winehouse is an English soul and jazz singer from Enfield in London. She has been singing professionally since she was 16 when her then boyfriend Tyler James sent a demo tape into the record company. She then signed with Label Records and in 2003 she released her debut album “Frank”, which was co-produced by Salaam Remi. The album was very much a jazz oriented album, hence the name after Frank Sinatra, and featured many songs that she had cowritten. In 2004, she won the Ivor Novello songwriting award for Best Contemporary Song, along with Salaam Remi, for the single, “Stronger Than Me”.
Just over 3 years after her first album “Frank”, she released “Back to Black”, and it became the highest debut entry of an album into the charts by a solo female singer (Though this record has been broken since). The first single was called “Rehab” and this song also won the Ivor Novello songwriting award for Best Contemporary Song in 2007!
The concert is on December 1st, which is a Saturday, and it starts at 7:30pm. Why not come to the capital for the weekend and get a head start on your Christmas shopping!
