Enniscorthy

Enniscorthy, a thriving market town (pottery is a speciality of the area), is in a very picturesque part of the Slaney Valley, on steeply sloping ground on both banks of the river. The River Slaney is navigable up to this point, and there is much river traffic with Wexford. Enniscorthy was the object of many attacks in the centuries following the Anglo-Norman invasion. It was also a storm centre of the 1798 Rising. Vinegar Hill offers a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside and the river. The annual Strawberry Fair takes place in late June/early July.
