Ennis Information

Ennis is a charming medieval town in County Clare. It is, in fact, the county town of Clare and lies on the N18 the main road that links the two cities of Limerick and Galway.

The town sits on the River Fergus and it originally grew up around a Franciscan Friary. Ennis was also a very important market town and today the market square is still home to some stalls.

Ennis is a pleasant town which has lots of shops, restaurants and lively traditional Irish pubs lining its narrow streets. Two of the biggest attractions in the town not to be missed include the De Valera Museum and the 13th century Franciscan Friary.

Ennis town makes a fantastic base for touring the west of Ireland. To the west is the wonderfully varied Atlantic coast, with mighty cliffs, caverns and sandy bays. To the north, this rugged coast rises nearly 700 feet above the sea in the form of the sheer Cliffs of Moher; here also is the amazing limestone district called the Burren, with its many caves, underground streams and rare flora. To the south is the broad Shannon estuary, where Ireland's greatest river meets the sea.
