Demesne Fishing At Shanes Castle

Running through the western end of the estate is the River Maine, a substantial river, a large part of which can be waded. Chest waders are recommended and a stout wading staff is needed. The river provides nearly 3 miles of unique angling in more attractive surroundings.
Castlecomer Angling Lakes

The Discovery Park grounds are located around two rainbow trout angling lakes. The two man-made lakes were originally constructed by the Prior Wandesforde family as a centrepiece for the Demesne grounds. Having been drained in the past, the lakes are now fully re-instated with angling stands to allow full access to the water and a series of cascades link the lakes and channel the water back into the River Deen. The lower lake is reserved for fly fishing and the upper lake for bait fishing and both are regularly stocked with Rainbow Trout varying from 1 to 15 lbs (0.5 to 7 kilograms) in weight. Angling is year round.
Castleconnell - A Fisherman’s Paradise
ESB Hydro Group, Castleconnell, Limerick
Castleconnel has developed as a popular angling resort, which is unsurprising giving the catches enjoyed on this stretch of the Shannon. The world-renowned salmon fishery draws game anglers. Four of the eight beats are let by tender and four work on a day ticket basis. Each beat is limited to three rods a day. Boats give access to the large pools. In spring there is a good run of salmon, peaking in May-April and there is plenty of grilse peaking in June. Coarse angling can be enjoyed in the deeper water below the salmon beats, and the river yields good numbers of bream, tench, rudd, and roach
