There’s plenty of reasons to visit Limerick city this Christmas! Not only is it the best shopping destination in the mid-west but in the run up to Christmas, Limerick will offer free parking, Christmas markets, Christmas on Ice and much more festive fun which is all part of the Limerick Winterfest 2009.
The festivities will kick off at 6pm on Friday 20th of November when local boxing hero Andy Lee together with the Mayor of Limerick will switch on the eco-friendly Christmas lights in the city. They will also switch on the Christmas Tree lights, but this is not just your average tree - this Christmas tree is said to be the largest in Ireland (100 feet!), is made from recycled material and will float on the River Shannon!
The Winterfest weekend will take place from the 20th to 22nd of November and will attract thousands of shoppers to the city. Look out for participating shops which will display a special Winterfest sticker, meaning that they can be offering anything up to 50% off purchases made. On street parking will be free with special discounts on multi storey carparks.
Christmas markets will be held in Pery’s Square - the city’s much loved Georgian area. This unique Christmas market will offer shoppers the chance to buy some traditional hand made Christmas gifts, festive foods, artisan cuisine, arts, crafts, organic produce and lots more. Browse the stalls, pick up some of your Christmas gifts and soak up the wonderful festive atmosphere. There will also be a Sunday Riverside Market taking place in Bedford Row each Sunday in the run up to Christmas.
