The Old Bushmills Distillery
The Old Bushmills Distillery is one of the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distilleries. Just last year The Old Bushmills Distillery celebrated 400 years of local distilling. The unique whiskey-making tradition is still very much alive as it was all those years ago and remains as popular as ever today. Bushmills Distillery is located in the town of Bushmills on the beautiful Antrim coast. Come along and enjoy the Bushmills experience, take a guided tour unlocking the secrets of years of fine distilling, enjoy a snack or light lunch in the distillery kitchen, sample the produce of Bushmills and purchase some products which make a great gift!
The Jameson Distillery proudly states that a visit to the Old Jameson Distillery is much more than just a tour, and how true this is. The Old Jameson Distillery is located in Smithfield in Dublin 7, this distillery no longer brews whiskey here unlike its Cork base but you can take a tour deep within this amazing restored 17th century building and learn and sample the taste of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey. You will learn of ‘The Jameson’s Irish Whiskey Story’ from the time it arrives at the barley stage, to malting and milling, mashing and fermenting and from distilling to maturing. Watch the interactive information screens available throughout and see how the fine oak barrels are created and branded. Volunteers will be requested during the tour to sample some of the products so be ready to put that hand up and offer your services! For evening entertainment why not avail of ‘Shindig Nights’, priced at just €60.00 per person you can sample fine food as you are entertained with song and dance and why not wash it all down with a glass of some Jameson’s Irish Whiskey. There is also a shop on-site where you can purchase your favourite Jameson to bring home.
Lockes Distillery is believed to be the oldest ‘Pot Still Distillery’ in the world. Established in 1757 and located in Kilbeggan in County Westmeath, the whiskey production continued for 200 years until it closed its doors in 1957. In 1982 the local people began restoring the old distillery and today it is open to the public as a Museum. Come and experience the ancient process of whiskey making from the millstones, to the mash tuns, underbacks, fermentation vats and pot stills to the casking of the final product.
