The annual Samhlaíocht Children’s Bumble Bee Festival will certainly have Tralee buzzing over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend. Children can look forward to a hive of activities in the KDYS building, street entertainment and of course the ever popular Festival parade on Easter Sunday. Why not take a look at our brief summary for more details…

The Samhlaíocht Children’s Bumble Bee Festival takes place from Saturday 11th April to Monday 13th April 2009, in and around Tralee, County Kerry. The theme of this year’s festival is “Imagination”.

A series of workshops will take place in the KDYS building in Denny Street. Children will take part in various Art and Craft, Drama, Music and Literature activities over 3 days. There are a maximum number of participants for each activity and also an entrance fee applies.

Hopefully the weather will be kind to the Festival over the holiday weekend, as there are usually street entertainers, including our own Fanzini Brothers, around the town providing their own unique amusements.

Of course a good clear night would also be essential for the ever popular Bumble Bee Festival parade on Easter Sunday Night. This colourful spectacle will commence at 8.45p.m. The parade will be led by the “Six Giants of Mortal Orchestra”. Starting off from Siamsa Tire, making its way through the town centre, turning down into Denny Street and finishing up at the Ashe Memorial Hall.

Following on from the parade, kids can then enjoy the excitement of a firework display, at 9.30p.m.

Moms and Dads, don’t feel left out as there is plenty for you to do also, as the Samhlaíocht Easter Arts Festival runs at the same time. Enjoy a host of activities including Art Exhibitions, Literary Workshops, Readings and Nature Walks.

At the time of writing, the final programme of events had not gone to print yet, but if you would like to keep up to date on Festival news please take a look at the Samhlaíocht Children’s Bumble Bee Festival website.
