With the magic of Christmas gone, January can be a bit of a tough month to get through. After all you still have those awful long winter days to contend with. Ever thought of brightening up your January blues with a trip to Dublin for a concert?
After the excitement of Christmas, all that good food and the odd glass of wine or two, it’s back to reality again. January can be such a dull depressing month, so it’s no harm to break up those dark winter days with a trip to the capital for a concert.
With international acts such as Chris Brown, Keane and New Kids on the Block gracing our shores, there are a variety of styles on offer, including our very own Christy Moore.
You could make things extra easy for yourself and book a hotel. You could also catch the January sales - there’s still bound to be a bargain or two to pick up. If you’re all shopped out maybe you’d like to do a bit of sightseeing. And don’t forget Dublin’s night scene, it really is second to none!
Here’s a list of some of the concerts taking place this January:
Christy Moore plays Vicar Street, on the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th of January, 2009, at 8pm. Enjoy classic music and songs from his long and illustrious career. The Irish singer/songwriter will be accompanied by Declan Sinnott
Chris Brown - This very talented young man is only 19 and already he has a CV that many a musician would envy, including a Grammy nomination. His music genre is
R & B, pop, dance and hip hop. Due to his huge popularity an extra date of 31st of January had to be added, as well as the earlier dates (the 7th and 8th of January are completely sold out). Catch Chris live at The O2 - show starts 8pm.
New Kids on the Block - The American pop/R & B band that enjoyed huge success in the late 80′s and early 90′s are coming to Ireland. No longer kids (members ranging in age from 35 to 40), the band reformed this year releasing new material and embarking on an extensive tour taking in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland and Germany.
Relive the boys glory days at The O2 on the 21st of January, 2009. Show starts at 6.30pm.
Keane - grab the chance to see Tom Chaplin and the lads at The O2, on the 25th of January, 2009. This UK piano rock band also specializes in ‘Alternative’ rock and pop rock. Hear the lads belt out tracks from their latest album, Perfect Symmetry, as well as their previous albums, Hopes and Fears and Under the Iron Sea. The show starts at 9pm.
Akon - multi-talented American hip hop and R & B singer songwriter, rap artist and producer, Akon entertains at the RDS Simmonscourt on the 27th of January, 2009. Show starts at 8pm.
