To be chosen as the Grand Marshall of Ireland’s biggest parade is a huge achievement and this year it’s be given to one of the nation’s greatest athletes of all time.

Eamonn Coughlan, Ireland’s 4 time Olympian and world record holder, will proudly lead the St.Patrick’s Day Parade through the streets of Dublin on March 17th.

Some of his most notable achievements were winning the an annual indoor one mile race in New York (Coughlan won it a record 7 times!), winning the 5,000 meters at the World Championships in 1983 and beating his own world record for the indoor mile in 1981 in New Jersey.

It’s a fitting tribute to the legendary runner to be Grand Marshall of the parade, as 2008 is the 25th anniversary of his world record indoor mile.
