As predicted, Prince has been added to this Summer’s line up of concerts at Croke Park Dublin. The concert which takes place on June 16th is just one of three concerts in Europe this Summer, where he will perform his greatest hits like ‘Purple Rain’, ‘Rasberry Beret’ and ’1999′ for the very last time to fans.
About the concert
Prince is bringing his “Greatest Hits for the Very Last Time Tour” to Croke Park Stadium on June 16th. It’s expected that over 80,000 fans will scramble for the tickets which will go on sale tomorrow morning (March 5th) at 8am on ticketmaster. Tickets range from €66.50 - €126.50. Gates open at 5pm, concerts starts at 7pm.
About the performer
Born Prince Rodgers Nelson in Minnesota in 1958 to singer-songwriter parents, he has been performing his R&B, pop, rock and funk music since 1978.
From a humble beginning in a high school band, his talent and love for music and singing soon flourished and this was just the platform that he needed. A demo tape that he recorded in a small studio in Minneapolis earned him his first contract.
Probably his biggest hit, was Purple Rain which spent 24 weeks at number one and sold more than 13 millions copies in the US!
He has been regarded as the ‘greatest artist of all time’ in several music polls and even sold out 21 concerts last year in London’s O2 arena as part of “The Earth Tour”.
About the venue
Croke Park stadium is the home of the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association). As well as been the venue for major hurling and football games, it’s also the scene of many rugby, soccer games and concerts.
Other concerts been performed here this Summer include; Celine Dion, Neil Diamond and Westlife.
The stadium, which has a capacity of over 82,000, can be found in the Drumcondra area, about a 20 minute walk north of the city centre.
To get there, just walk to the top of O’Connell Street (Dublin’s main street in the city centre). This is the end with the Parnell monument. Take a right onto Parnell Street and continue until Summerhill. Then take a left along the North Circular Road and a right onto Russell Street, which will bring you to Jones Road from where you’ll see the stadium in front of you.
If you’re travelling to Dublin by train, pick up a DART connection which will take you as far as the Drumcondra stop, within walking distance of the stadium. Pick up the number 51A, 11A, 11, 16 and 3 if you want to get a bus to the area.
