The Diversions Festival comes to Temple Bar every year for the summer months of June, July and August. The festival is made up of a number of different events, including circus performances and open-air movies. It’s the biggest and longest running festival in Ireland and it’s free, so if you’re in Dublin this Summer, come along to Temple Bar and join in the fun!
About the festival…
The Diversions Festival is one of the biggest events held every year in Temple Bar. This festival runs from early June to the end of August, which makes it the longest running festival in the country. The 2007 festival consists of several concurrently run events, such as the ‘Circus Season’, the ‘Short Film Award’, ’2007 Music, Opera & Live Performance’ and some other ‘Special Cinematic Events’.
In 2007, there was also the ‘Jameson Movies in the Square’, which featured such classic movies as The Godfather, The Magnificent Seven, Aliens, Psycho and Citizen Kane. The ‘Silent Movie Season’ screened the Phantom of the Opera and Metropolis, and a live musical score accompanied them.
In 2008, the Movies in the Square will be taking part every Saturday from July 5th until August 30th; these take place in the Meeting House Square which is very much the hub of the entire festival. The streets and squares of Temple Bar will also be filled with colour and entertainment as the circus comes to town. From 13th to the 20th of July, Circus week will be taking off with a bang. This is just a taste of what will be taking place over the summer in Temple Bar.
While the events are free, tickets will be allocated for events so be sure to get yours at the Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre.
How to get to Temple Bar..
Temple Bar is Dublin’s cultural and nightlife quarter and is really easy to get to. Just head south on O’Connell Street until you reach O’Connell Bridge. Cross over the bridge and take a right onto Aston Quay, first left onto Anglesa Street and another right, which will bring you right into the heart of Temple Bar.
