If you’re a fan of Stereophonics then you probably already know that they are playing in the RDS at the end of November. If you’re coming to Dublin for the show then you might want to book one of our Dublin hotels so you can stay the night and head home at your ease the following day…you might even get a chance to start your Christmas shopping.
The RDS is located just south of the city centre in the suburb of Ballsbridge. If you’re basing yourself in one of the city centre Dublin hotels it’s easy enough to get to the RDS.
It’s about a 20-minute walk from the city centre if you fancy stretching your legs. Starting outside Trinity College, walk along Nassau Street for about 150 metres or so and take a right, following signs for the R118 (Mount Street). Continue along this road for about 2kms (it eventually becomes Merrion Road) and you’ll see the RDS in front of you.
Otherwise you can hop on a bus. Bus routes 5, 7 and 45 all stop on Nassau Street outside of Trinity College. You can get off at the Merrion Road entrance to the RDS. You can also take the DART as far as Lansdowne or Sandymount stations, both of which are only about a 10-minute walk from the venue.
Stereophonics are a rock band from Wales. The members Kelly Jones and Richard Jones (no relation) grew up together in Cwmaman, South Wales. Together with Stuart Cable they started in 1992 as a teenage cover band. In 1996, the band was the first group to be signed up by Richard Branson’s new Record Label V2 and in 1998 they received a BRIT award for best new group. Later on, Stuart Cable got his own TV show and Javier Weyler filled his place in the lineup. They then released “Language. Sex. Violence. Other?” in 2005. In 2006 they released their first live album a collected works of their 2005 tour called “Live from Dakota”. Now in 2007 they have released “Pull the Pin” in October.
As part of their “Pull the Pin” tour the band are playing a gig in the Main Hall of the RDS on Thursday 29th of November. Two of the most well known songs from the “Pull the Pin” album include “It Means Nothing”, the first single from the album; and “Bank Holiday Monday”, which was a sneak preview of the album released in May. The gig starts at 7pm and tickets can be got at the usual places like ticketmaster.
There are also plenty Dublin hotels close to the RDS if you don’t fancy staying in the city centre. There are several hotels in the vicinity including a number of reasonably priced 3-star hotels such as the Lansdowne Hotel, the Tara Towers Hotel, the Mount Herbert Hotel and the Roxford Lodge Hotel. If you’re looking for a 4 star hotel then there’s the Herbert Park Hotel and the School House Hotel. For some real luxury you might choose the Dylan Hotel which is a 5-star.
