At Clones, the Presbyterian church (1854) is on left. The Church of Ireland church (1822) dominates the Diamond, the centrepiece of which is an excellent example of an early High Cross (9th or 10th century). Old Testament scenes are depicted on one side of the cross, while the reverse side illustrates New Testament stories....

An old monastery was founded here by St. Tighernach in the 6th century. The high Cross probably stood near the Round Tower originally and was later moved to its present position in the Diamond. The cross (9th century?) is in two parts which did not belong together originally. Just outside Glaslough is Donagh Graveyard, where there is the ruin of an early Christian church and an impressive High Cross. A 12th century bronze crucifix from Donagh is used as a processional cross in Monaghan Cathedral. The name Donagh is though to have derived from the traditional practice of St Patrick of only turning the sod of a new church on a Sunday (Domhnach in Irish)....
