What is a Birth and Baptismal search?

A Birth and Baptismal search wil provide you with an official document from the county genealogy centre detailing your ancestors date of birth, date of baptism, parents' names, godparents' names, and other additional information. The actual research is carried out by the centers resident genealogical expert.

Which counties offer a Birth and Baptismal search?

At the moment, a Birth and Baptismal search can be carried out in up to ten counties in Ireland. Each county has an official genealogy centre where all research is conducted by the centers resident expert.

This ensures that the search will be carried out through the proper records of information and through the use of authentic sources. The Baptism Record will have the official approval of the genealogy centre along with the Irish Family History Foundation.


How much does a Birth and Baptismal search cost?

If a successful Birth and Baptismal search is performed, the fee will be EUR45.00.


What happens if no birth or baptismal records can be found?

Genealogy centers in each of the counties will perform an extensive search based on the information provided by you. If the search is unsuccessful, you will receive a refund of EUR20.00…the remainder is retained to cover administration costs incurred during the search.
