Smashing Times Theatre Company was founded in 1991 by a group of women committed to providing access to drama and theatre in communities that would not usually be exposed to the arts. The company recognises the power of drama in relation to its effect on personal and community development. While providing this access the board members discovered that many of the women in the audience were themselves interested in devising and performing plays and so "Switched On - ESB Accessing Theatre for Women" was born.

The "Switched On" - ESB Accessing Theatre for Women community arts programme creates a niche in the drama world for women of all walks of life. The aim is to use drama as a tool for social change. The plays celebrate and explore the diversity of women's experiences and challenge the boundaries of what constitutes the female perspective. Every year sees the company work with over 10 different women's theatre groups both North and South of the border with work focusing on, and inspired by social issues relevant to the group in question....

ROUGH MAGIC PRODUCTION OF NEIL SIMON’S COMEDY PLAZA SUITE AT PAVILION THEATRE, DUN LAOGHAIRE FROM JULY 13TH for three weeks only

THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER

This summer, the award-winning theatre company Rough Magic is going to the seaside... from July 13th they will present one of Neil Simon’s most enduring, endearing and entertaining comedies PLAZA SUITE at the Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire. This three act play will be directed by three of Ireland’s most exciting young theatre directors, graduates of Rough Magic’s SEEDS and run for three weeks only.

PLAZA SUITE is a confection of three stories (acts) with three different couples all set in Suite 719 of New York City’s famous Plaza Hotel. In the first act, directed by Sophie Motley, we meet a not-so-blissfully married couple, (Karen Ardiff and Mark Lambert), who revisit their honeymoon suite in an attempt to revive their marriage.
In the second act, directed by Aoife Spillane-Hinks, a famous Hollywood producer entertains an old flame, (Darragh Kelly and Ali White), with interesting results.
And, in the final act, directed by Matt Torney, a distraught couple (Nick Dunning and Eleanor Methven) face their daughter’s wedding jitters.

If only walls could talk ... and in this hilarious and delightful comedy the walls of Suite 719 certainly do as difficult decisions, romantic diversions and emotional baggage all unfold.

Jody O’Neill and Carl Kennedy take supporting roles. Set and Costume Design is by Bláithín Sheerin with Lighting Design by Sarah Jane Shiels (who is also a SEEDS graduate).
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Neil Simon is one of America's most productive and popular dramatists. He has received more Academy and Tony nominations than any other writer and is the only playwright to have four Broadway productions running simultaneously.

PLAZA SUITE showcases Simon at his best - witty, clever and relentlessly funny.
