The Gate Theatre part of the Rotunda Hospital was founded in by Michael Mac Liammoir and Hilton Edwards and it is said that Orson Welles and James Mason began their careers there.

A plaque at no 5, opposite the theatre, marks the birthplace of the poet Oliver St John Gogarty.

The box office is open from Monday - Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., for reservations and credit card bookings. Tickets reserved by telephone must be collected 45 minutes before the start of the performance. A limited number of car parking spaces is available to patrons of the Gate, within the grounds of the Rotunda Hospital, which proceeds go to the Hospital and spaces must be pre booked.
