On the corner of Mount Street Upper, No 29 Fitzwilliam Street has been completely furnished in the style of a middle-class family house of the period 1790 - 1820 with items from the National Museum Collection.
The guided tours take in the lives of all the members of the household, passing from the kitchen and pantry through drawing rooms and bedrooms to the nursery.

William Dargan, the railway designer, lived at No 2 Fitzwilliam Street, and Fitzwilliam House, No 6, was the home of Margaret Burke Sheridan, the Irish prima donna famous for her renditions of Puccini's work.

For a diversion here, you can take a short walk along Mount Street Upper to the Grand Canal behind it. Commenced in 1755, this quiet waterway leads into the heart of the country through a succession of locks.<
Description
Description

Its tree-lined towpaths and picturesque bridges were a favourite retreat for the poet Patrick Kavanagh, who is commemorated as he wished by a seat here, and also by an evocative statue just beyond Baggot Street Bridge.
