DAY 1


Northern Tour

Take the Navan road out of Dublin for Tara - site of a former royal acropolis, situated in an area rich in ancient monuments. Continue north to Navan, Donaghmore and Slane. Visit the Bronze Age cemeteries at Brugh na Boinne, King Williams Glen, Mellifont Abbey and Monasterboice, before heading for Dunleer, Castlebellingham and Dundalk - an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside. If you wish, you can travel further north to see the delightfully rugged Carlingford Peninsula, taking you through Ballymascanlon, Carlingford, Omeath and back into Dundalk. Heading south you reach Castlebellingham, Clogher, Termonfeckin, Baltray, with its fine beach and golf course and on into Drogheda, on the River Boyne. In Bettystown, further south, there is a long sandy beach linking up with Laytown, while further on is Julianstown.
Following the coast enjoy a pleasant drive through Balbriggan, Skerries, Rush, Lusk, make a detour to Newbridge House in Donabate, Swords and Howth, stopping to admire the magnificent views from the rocky Hill of Howth.


Return to Dublin via Sutton.


DAY 2


Southern Tour

The southern tour takes you through Dun Laoghaire, Dalkey and Killiney - with it's magnificent view over the Vico Road - into Bray, one of Ireland's premier seaside resorts. Continuing you reach Enniskerry, a pretty village beneath the Sugarloaf Mountain and near the beautiful Powerscourt Estate. The scenic mountain drive takes you to Glendalough, with its ancient ruins and picturesque lakes, passing through Glencree, Glenmacnass and Laragh. If you wish you can return to Dublin by Blessington, making a short but enjoyable trip - or keep south to Rathdrum, Avoca and Woodenbridge into Arklow, where you can enjoy a swim or go sea fishing. Driving on through County Wexford takes you to Gorey, Courtown Harbour (seaside resort), Ferns, Enniscorthy and Wexford, which is 20km/13mls from Rosslare Harbour. These charming old towns are well worth a visit. Follow the coast through Rosslare, Duncormick, Arthurstown and into New Ross. From here take the road to Kilkenny, a medieval city steeped in history. Visit the Kilkenny Design Workshops, Roathe House and Kilkenny Castle. Return to Dublin through Carlow and Kildare towns of Athy, Kildare, Kilcullen, and Ballymore Eustace, taking in the lake drive near Blessington and reaching the city via Brittas.
