A remarkable priest, Father McDyer, started a self reliance co-operative movement among the inhabitanats of this village in the 1950's and his efforts have put Glencolmcille on the social and tourist maps. The area is rich in archaelological reamins and the valley is naturally beautiful.
Description
Description
This famous missionary was born in Gartan, Co Donegal where he established his order in the 6th century. The 5km pilgrims walk embraces most of the important archaeological sites in the valley. The Folk Village and Museum contains a series of buildings which reflect the rounded thatched cottages which are still a feature of the Donegal landscape.
