Around Derry City

The second city of Northern Ireland located next to the River Foyle. The people of Derry are rightly proud of their city. St Columba founded an ecclesiastical centre in this richly wooded area. The old town is encircled by a set of city walls, completed in 1618. The walls are famed for never having been breached, hence the name, Maiden City. Today the city is vibrant, under the guidance of local politician and Nobel peace prize winner, John Hume the city has undergone a period of prosperity in the 1990's. A place where the visitor will be made truly welcome.
