Timoleague

  • Three miles away from Courtmacsherry is Timoleague Abbey, in its day one of the most important religious houses in Ireland.
  • The existing ruins are of the Fourteenth-century Franciscan friary founded by a prince of Thomond, Donal Glas MacCarthy; it succeeded an earlier house founded here by St Molaga (Timoleague means House of Molaga.)
