Meetings of the Water, Avoca, Wicklow Show on a map
Rated 9.1 by GoIreland customers (24 ratings)
The Old Coach House is a multi award winning Victorian country home set in the beautiful Vale Of Avoca and just a few minutes walk to the immortalised "Meeting of the Waters", it was built in the the early 1800's as an overnight stop for stage coaches journeying on the old Dublin to Wexford road.
The house just oozes charm and retains much of that period feel all coupled with a warm welcome and modern comforts. In the evenings we invite you to sit and relax in the lounge with its open fires and perhaps choose something to read from our library of books.

If heading to the Old Coach House from Dublin, you should take the N11 to Rathnew. From there follow signs for Rathdrum, and from there onto the Meeting of the Waters. The Old Coach House is situated a few hundred metres after that on the right hand side.
The Old Coach House is within walking distance of the famed Meeting of the Waters, made famous by the poet Thomas Moore (1779-1852) "There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet, As that vale in whose bosom the bright waters meet."
As expected the bedrooms in the Old Coach House are all en-suite, all have televisions and hairdryers and include individual tea/coffee facilities and Irish mineral water for your early morning or late night requirements. The majority of the bedrooms overlook the Avoca river and Valley, the furnishings have been carefully selected to be traditional and in keeping with the period of the house but with modern amenities provided.
There are several historical attractions nearby including Glendalough and the Meeting of the Waters is within a 2/3 minute walk from us, some other nearby attractions are Avondale House, Avoca hand Weaving shed and Ballykissangel. The Meeting of the Waters has traditional Irish music several nights a week in the meetings bar. County Wicklow has a wealth of history with many historical houses and sites all within a short drive, at nearby Wicklow town is the reputed landing spot of St Patrick to Ireland, here you will also find the old British gaol where many of our ancestors were dispatched to Australia "never to return". Meeting of the Waters Restaurant is 300 metres to left and Moore Pub and Restaurant is 300 metres to right.
If golf is your passion there are 29 courses in our Garden County, we have Blue Flag beaches, ancient forest parks, Trout and Salmon fishing nearby and for hillwalking and scenery to inspire you lets not forget the stunningly beautiful Wicklow Mountains at our back.
