Sligo, one of the most scenically beautiful counties in Ireland offers endless opportunities to walkers. The mountainous landscap, the boglands, endless stretches of snady beaches, forests and the many historical attractiosn, e.g. Yeat's Grave at Drumcliff, the Castles, Great Houses and Monasteries.
Description
The path, which can be somewhat mucky in wet weather leads quickly to an astonishing gorge in the mountainside. Within the shelter of its cliffs there grows an extraordinary profusion of plant life - moss, ferns, herbs, shrubs and trees. Energetic (and thorn-proof) walkers can press on through the gorge for 1km , to emerge at the E end. Return N over field.
