The rooms in this non-smoking house are very comfortable and two of them are family rooms that come with both a double and a single bed. Lissadell House is famous because it was the childhood home of Constance Markievicz who was a leader in the 1916 Rising. She was also the first woman to be elected to Dail Eireann and the first female minister in a European Democracy. W.B. Yeats was a childhood friend of Constance and her sister Eva Gore Booth (who was a poet of some distinction herself) and they are mentioned in many of his finest poems. Many of W.B. Yeats poems are about this part of the country and his grave is found in Drumcliff not too far from Lissadell Farmhouse.
There is plenty more to do in the surrounding countryside including beaches at Lissadell, Streedagh and Rosses Point; scenic walks at Lissadell, Hazelwood, Slishwood and Glencar Waterfall. Other attractions include Carrowmore Megalithic Tomb and Sligo Abbey. Other activities include horse trekking, golfing, surfing and the seaweed baths at Strandhill. Nearby Carney and Grange are fine places to go out for dinner or a few pints.
