Ross Castle Accommodation

Oldcastle, County Meath Show on a map

Ross Castle Accommodation is situated on the banks of Lough Sheelin at the edge of Co. Meath. Ross Castle was built by the Lords of Delvin in 1536. It has maginificent views of Lough Sheelin which has great fishing for trout, perch and pike. Ross Castle has been left in the historic style from the days of old. It has a rustic charm and a homely feel that you would expect from a monument such as this.

The tower has two double rooms with view of the lake. There, also, are three downstairs rooms. One with a terrace and en-suite bathroom. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated.

Ross Castle is an ideal for romantic getaways and family holidays in a rural setting.

Directions

Ross Castle is located about 60 miles west of Dublin, only about an hours drive from the city since the new N/M3 has finally been finished. You drive all the way to Virginia, from there come off the N3 to Oldcastle, Mountnugent and take a left towards Ross there. Take a right at the crossroads in Ross and we are the last property there.

All rooms are furnished in period antiques to complement the stately ambience.

The castle premises are entered through the original archway dating back to 1536 to an inner courtyard and lawn, surrounded by a stone wall and ancient trees.

On the ground floor guests will enter the large entrance hall connecting the tower and sitting room. The latter large room, with a lovely open fireplace, has wide French Windows, giving access to the terrace. This was the original castle bawn.

The ground floor to the right of the entrance hall is where the Great Hall used to be. It contains a spacious sitting-room come dining-room with fireplace. Our own turf is used to light this every evening for guests to enjoy. This room is used for breakfast, dinner and sitting together in a cosy and chatty atmosphere by an Irish turf and wood fire.
