The surrounding landscape is criss-crossed with many boreens (small side roads) and other country roads which are ideal for walking on. Your hosts will be happy to direct you on good routes to take, which will enable you to see the best of the countryside and native wildlife. While you are touring the countryside on foot or by car you might drop into the Mayo Abbey which was a very important religious site that drew followers from throughout the continent from the 7th century. Other historical attractions include Knock Shrine, Ballintubber Abbey and the Museum of Country Life.
Claremorris is only about 10km away and as well as having many fine pubs and restaurants there's plenty to do in the area. There's an equestrian centre near the town and there's also an 18-hole golf course. A little further away is Castlebar which also has much to do as well as a 7-Screen cinema, bowling alley and karting.
