Travelling from Carrick-on-Shannon, take the Elphin road for 3.5km, take a left on to Kilmore road for 4.5km.
Cottages are supplied with a lake boat to explore the river Shannon which is close by. Or listen to traditional Irish music at Tatch pub which is 5km away or visit Strokestown house and Famine museum, or Lough Key forest park. Or maybe visit Arigna coalmine, tour and see how life was in the old days. Carrick-on-Shannon is a beautiful town on Roscommon/Leitrim border with many restaurants and pubs to pass the time. Lake boat is free. Engine is extra €30. 8km from new adventure centre on Shannon at Rooskey.

Kates cottages are in a brilliant location. It is conveniently close to the River Shannon and fishing lakes. Angling, golf and forest walks can all be enjoyed locally. Take in a tour of the Argina Coal Mine or a cruise on the Moon River Cruiser. Hire a car and enjoy some of the scenic delights that Carrick-on-Shannon has to offer. Why not put on your walking shoes and enjoy The Leitrim Way, stopping to admire some therapeutic scenery. After all this activity, let your foot tap to the music in the traditional thatched pub nearby. Other places worth a visit are: The Arigna Mining Experience is situated in North Rocommon very close to the Leitrim border. This centre was developed to give visitor an insight into what coal mining was like in the Arigna Valley from the 1700's right through until the mine's closure in 1990. Visitors can take the underground tour and experience for themselves what it was like to work in the narrow coal seams. Strokestown Park House is an 18th century mansion which has been beautifully restored with original furnishings and professionally guided tours allowing visitors to browse about the house and it's surroundings. Also at Strokestown House and well worth a visit is the Famine Museum which uses a combination of original documents and images from the Strokestown Park collection to explain the circumstances of the Great Irish Famine of the 1840's. This collection boasts a wide range of papers including actual letters written by the tenants on the Strokestown Estate at the time of the famine.

Owner was friendly and helpful. Location was ideal for our purposes around Leitrum/Roscommon. Cottage was roomy, warm and comfortable, well equipped with washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, central heating.
These modern holiday homes are beautifully furnished throughout. Each property has the added facility of private parking and ground floor bedrooms.
