Bar & Restaurant
The Castlelough Restaurant is an impressive dining room of the old style, built as part of the original house in 1820, it has 25 foot high ceilings, large ornate mirrors and cornice work and reminds one of the big country houses of the past when dinner was the highlight of the day and ballgowns and black tie were the norm. Without doubt the most eye catching feature of this magnificent room is the vast windows which span the full room from one end to the other ensuring that all are reminded of the breathtaking scenery just beyond the hotel. Dining in a space with this backdrop is a memorable one, inevitably conversations can die out as guests are drawn again and again to gaze at the natural splendour of the mountains and lakes outside. Indeed the food on offer competes with this stunning vista for attention but with the range of fresh seafood, seasonal meats, organic vegetables, local cheeses and mouth-watering desserts used by our Chefs, as the flavours melt in the mouth, our dishes make themselves noticed.
The Devils Punchbowl Bar takes its name from the stunning glacial lake on Mangerton Mountain set within Killarney National Park, a 25,000 acre oasis adjacent to The Lake Hotel and visible from the bar, restaurant, lounges and majority of bedrooms. This bright and relaxing bar also offers large windows looking out onto the hotel lawn, the ruins of the 12th century McCarthy Mor castle and of course, the lakes and mountains beyond. The bar is always busy for morning coffee and scones, leisurely lunches by guests, locals and passing tourists, the Lake Hotel classic Afternoon Tea in the afternoon and casual, tasty bar food throughout the early evening. There is always something on offer to sate the appetite and thirst at the bar and combined with our friendly and helpful staff, guests come back again and again to enjoy this restful and inviting space.
Leisure activities at the hotel
At The Lake Hotel despite having unparalleled jogging and exercise space just beyond our doors and the 25,000 National Park adjacent to our property, we offer a fully equipped fitness centre and gym. Located on the ground floor and looking out across the lawn, past the hot tub to the lakes and mountains, we hope this view will take your mind off the miles to be run on the treadmill or rowed on the rowing machine.
On the first floor of the hotel tucked away beside the main staircase is the Library. A room reserved for our guests, the Library offers not only a range of books, magazines, newspapers and board games but also three computers for complimentary use by our guests. An ideal space for planning out your day trips, the rest of your holiday in the region or for checking emails, the Library is a warm yet useful space.
