Welcome to Killarney National Park, Ireland's first National Park opened in 1932. The park is situated in south-west Ireland, close to the most westerly point in Europe, and it covers over 25,000 acres (10,000 hectares) of mountain, moorland, woodland, waterways, parks and gardens.

Description
The focal point of the National Park is its three lakes; Lough Leane, the Upper Lake and Muckross Lake. They can be seen from almost everywhere in the National Park but for the best views make your way to 'Ladies View' on the N72. You can enjoy a boat ride on the lake or a spot of fishing as the lakes are plentiful with brown trout and salmon.
Killarney National Park is also famous for the only surviving wild herd of Red Deer in Ireland. You will also come across the oldest Oak Woods in Ireland on the lower slopes of the Tomies Mountains where some of the trees are over 200 years old! Also unique to the park is a Yew Wood, one of three in Europe. It also has a share of rare plant species like the Killarney Fern, the Strawberry Tree, St. Patricks Cabbage and the Greater Butterwort.
The park has lots of nature trails and walking routes. Attractions to explore include Muckross House, Muckross Traditional Farm, Muckross Abbey, Ross Castle, Torc Waterfall and Inisfallen Abbey.
Walking and cycling are the best ways to explore the park, which can be entered at Knockreer, Ross Castle and Muckross Road. Another pleasant way to see the park is to get a jaunting car ride.
The National Park is free to enter and open all year round.
