With one of Europe’s cleanest rivers, The Caragh River, on your doorstep you’ll have plenty of opportunity to go salmon and trout fishing. Permits arranged. Boat hire available on Caragh Lake for free fishing.

From Killarney
Travel the N72 from Killarney to Killorglin for 6km. Turn left for Glencar and continue for approximately 20kms.

From Tralee
Travel the N70 from Tralee or Kerry Airport. Drive to Killorglin, cross the Laune Bridge and take the next left (at Bianconi Inn) and drive for 1km. Take the next right for Glencar, drive for 15km following the signs for Blackstones house.

The great outdoors enthusiast can visit Cappanalea Outdoor Education Centre, which offers a variety of adventure sports for all ages. Nearby Killorglin is well worth a visit. Here you can sample a pint of Guinness or if you’re feeling peckish, dine in one of the many fine restaurants, where seafood is always a speciality.

Guests can enjoy a nature trail through Blackstones Native Oakwood. The woodland is entirely within Killarney National Park, the McGillicuddy Reeks and Caragh Lake catchment. There is a mixed age canopy dominated by bessile oak. There is also Birch, Holly, and ground layer species are well represented. The woodland is bound on both sides by the upper and small Caragh Rivers. In 2005 we committed to protect this very special part of our natural heritage by placing 21.18 hectares of woodland in the Native Woodland Scheme. This scheme is dedicated to enhancing existing nature woodlands as Blackstones Wood.

Nearby Killorglin is excellent for picking up supplies for your stay, a quick bite to eat or a drink in one of the many pubs in the town.

Staying in Glencar you are only half an hour drive from one of Ireland leading tourists towns Killarney.  Here you can explore its magnificent lakes, National Parks, Waterfall and town with its lively cafes, pubs and restaurants.
