Inis Meain(Back to top)

Teresa and Padraig will assist you in planning a rugged, coastal walk or a ramble through the maze of stone walls all over the island. There are 2 ancient stone forts which have very significant archaeological merit and date back to 2000 BC. Dún Chonchúir ( Conors Fort ) is just across the road from An Dun B&B and Restaurant and Dún na Fearbhaí is found on the east side of the island. Both forts are easily accessed from the main road and there is no entry fee. Teach Synge ( Synges Cottage ) is located next door to An Dún and is open for visitors during the tourist season.

Inis Meain is also an ideal destination for walking, rock fishing, diving, astronomy, botany and of course the leisurely enjoyment of an island holiday. No visit to Inis Meain is complete without a visit to the Teach Osta, the local traditional island pub. Live traditional music, open turf fire and a chance to hear and share in the local Irish language.

Facilities (Back to top)

There is a mini library and guests are permitted to take away books when replaced by another one.  An Dun offers much more than accommodation, the restaurant serving lunch and dinner is recommended by the Bridgestone Guide and Georgina Campbell “ Best places to Eat and Stay” guide books since 2002. The food is wholesome, uncomplicated and very tasty, using a very high percentage of local seafood, vegetables, famous Aran potatoes, local wild berries, all breads and cakes are homemade.

An Dun has their own organic garden and potato fields fertilized in local seaweed. The dining room is small and cosy so booking for dinner is essential.
