Arrivig late the Castle Hotel looked extremely romantic sitting on its own high up on the hills no other buildings round with spot lights highlighting the contours - it just looked right. Heavy wooden entrance door just like in the old days and one step inside a nice open fire (gas) gives one an immediate feeling of a warm welcome. We were checked in by friendly staff and welcomed ( I assume ) by a live parrot sitting on his cage and talking to the guest. Inside along the hall heavy carpets and many nice pictureson the walls transmitting the feeling of having arrived in a real castle. The door to our room to be opened with a big key like in the old days - inside a large bed and anything one needs. The bathroom was perfect. The room was a bit dark and looking out of the window we looked right against a very steep ditch with wild plants like in the jungle so if you can try to arrange for a room to the front of the castle which overlooks the whole valley. As the castle is about one km from the village I had no worry about my car since there is ample private carparking and no through trafic near by. The dinner in the evening just excellent with top attention by the staff and priced like in any other restaurant. The prices for a bottle of wine however are astronomical by any standard but then you can read the prices in advance its just a pitty that one has to think twice should we have wine or just drink water. The breakfast was excellent by self service, also staff available for assistance if required, and anything one could wish to eat in the morning was available. We would certainly go back there but would insist on a room to the front of the castle to give us the beautiful view over the country day and night just to bring our stay up to total perfection.

Just stayed at the Abbeyglen and found it a charmingly quaint hotel with lovely staff who were friendly and helpful at all times. The breakfast and dinner choices were excellent and the food so very tasty. The standard room we had needed a makeover though and the walls are paper thin, I could hear the conversation of the couple next door as if they were talking directly to me, so be warned...no state secrets and you'll be fine!! All in all, a lovely stay with just those little bug bears
