The Royal Dublin Golf Club is one of Ireland’s oldest and most eminent golf links. Founded at a meeting in No. 19 Grafton Street in May 1885 it is arguable that the clubs origins and history stretch back to the early 1800’s, when one Captain William Bligh of Mutiny on the Bounty fame, in constructing a sea wall aid proper shipping access to Dublin created a sand bank where Royal Dublin enjoys it’s unique location today.
The accumulation of sand which became known as Bull Island, is still increasing in size today. This unique island is situated in Dublin Bay where it commands excellent views of the city and the Wicklow Mountains. It is only four miles from the city centre and a fifteen minute drive from Dublin Airport but is surrounded by a bird and wild life sanctuary offering the golfer a sense of tranquillity which is unequaled so close to any other capital city.
