Although located within a few miles of Dublin's advancing urban sprawl, Newbridge House still manages to preserve its character of a secluded eighteenth century gentleman's residence set in a wooded demesne.

Description
This delightful 18th century manor is set on 350 acres of park land, twelve miles north of the city centre and boasts one of the finest Georgian interiors in Ireland. Each room open to the public has its own style of antique and original furniture - indeed the house appears more or less as it did 150 years ago. The house, designed by George Semple, was built in 1737 for Charles Cobb later Archbishop of Dublin. It contains elaborate stucco plasterwork by Robert West. The coat of arms of the Cobbe family features two swans with the legend "Moriens Cano" (Dying I Sing). The swan song of the Cobbes of Newbridge House ends on a happy note however. The house was sold to Dublin County Council complete with much of the contents and it provides an intimate insight into the past for all to see.
In 1760 the Archbishop's fashionable dauther-in-law, Lady Elizabeth Beresford, added a large wing to the back of the classical mansion containing the magnificent red drawing-room. One of the finest Georgian rooms in Ireland, it was designed to display her husband's collection of 17th and 18th century paintings. The crimson damask wall covering and the co-ordinating carpet and curtains date back 170 years.
The unique museum of curiosities dating to 1790 is full of weird and wonderful objects brought back by the widely travelled Cobbes and displayed in specially designed cabinets.
The period atmosphere of the house is further accentuated by the presence of a fully restored courtyard, surrounded by a dairy state workers house, carpenters shop and a blacksmiths forge all displaying nineteenth century tools and implements. The grounds also contains a twenty nine acre traditional farm, complete with farmyard animals a delight to any young visitors and perfect for school tours and large groups.
