The entire history of Ireland can be found in these venerable halls. The Prehistoric Ireland exhibit introduces the visitor to the everyday culture of prehistory. The finest collection of prehistoric gold artefacts in Europe is featured in Ór - Ireland's Gold. In The Treasury you shall find outstanding examples of Celtic and Medieval art such as the famous Ardagh Chalice, Tara Brooch and the Derrynaflan Hoard. One of the most extensive exhibitions ever to deal with the fascinating period from around 800 to 1150 is the Viking Age Ireland exhibit. The Medieval Ireland exhibit deals with Irish history in the turbulent period of 1150 – 1550. The Road to Independence is a fascinating exhibition, which deals with Irish history at the time of independence, 1919-1921.
There are a number of non-Irish exhibits as well including Ancient Egypt gives visitors a glimpse of a multifaceted civilisation. There is also an extensive showing about Ancient Rome that deals with called the Life and Death in The Roman World.
Opening Hours: Tuesdays to Saturdays 10am to 5pm and on Sundays 2pm to 5pm.
