Down District is a place of outstanding natural beauty, with a rich history, extending from the shores of Strangford Lough to the Mourne Mountains. There are several walks in the Lecale area which take in public footpaths and roads. Most of the paths are walkable without difficulty. However, good waterproof footwear is advisable as some stretches can get quite muddy. The countryside and coast of Co. Down is one of the most important breeding grounds for birds in Ireland with an abundance of flora and fauna to enthuse the naturalist. With such natural beauty and places of interest on our doorstep, there's no better place to get out and have fun Walking our Way.

Description
The walk begins at Kilclief Castle, built before 1440, it is the earliest known tower house in Co. Down. The route follows the public road before taking to the lanes and rolling pasture of the townland of Glebe. Returning by road to your starting point you again sight the Castle and Strangford narrows beyond.
Distance: Approx 3.1 miles, 5kms
Time: Approx 1-1/2 hours
Starting point: Car park, opposite Kilclief Castle Leave the car park by turning left on to the Shore Road in foot of the Castle. Continue until the first fork and take the bishopscourt Road to the right. Then go past the next road junctions still keeping to the right. The road passes a small housing estate and then continue past the junction with the Glebe Road. Take the public footpath signposted on the right which points up a farm lane. Follow the lane past farm outhouses, over a stile into fields. Keep to the side of the ditch as shown by the way marker, then over another stile into an open field. Again follow the direction of the way marker across the field until another stile comes into view. Go over this stile into a laneway that runs down the boundary of the field and over the stile on to the Glebe Road Turn right at this point and continue until the road joins the Bishopscourt Road, turn left at this point and retrace your steps back to the car park at the Castle.
Refreshments: Refreshments are available in Strangford or Ballyhornan.
